ABOUT
The Fluency Lounge was created around a simple idea:
People don’t become fluent by studying English. They become fluent by using it regularly.
Research consistently shows that language develops through meaningful exposure, repeated use, and real interaction with other people. The Lounge was designed to bring those elements together in a way that fits into everyday life.

Built around how fluency develops
Low Pressure
Research suggests that fluency depends not only on what we know, but on how easily we can access what we know. Stress, self-monitoring, and performance pressure can interfere with that access, making speaking feel harder than it needs to be.
The Lounge is intentionally low-pressure, creating an environment where conversation can flow more naturally.
Repeated Use
The brain becomes more efficient at retrieving language through repeated use. Regular speaking helps strengthen the connections that make words and expressions easier to access when needed.
The Lounge provides regular opportunities to speak, helping transform passive knowledge into active language.
Meaningful Conversation
Language develops most effectively when it is used to communicate ideas, experiences, and opinions. Real interaction creates the conditions for language to become active rather than remaining passive knowledge.
That’s why Lounge conversations are built around articles, experiences, and topics adults genuinely want to discuss.

Meet the founders
The Fluency Lounge was founded by Starla Coffee and Christian Bernard Lim, native English speakers from California who have lived in Italy for over ten years.
After years of teaching English and working with adult learners, they wanted to create something different from a traditional classroom: a place where adults could use English regularly in a relaxed, welcoming environment.
Inspired by research on how fluency develops — and by the kinds of social spaces where people naturally connect and communicate — The Lounge was designed around conversation, consistency, and real-world use of English.

The goal
The goal isn’t perfect English.
It’s being able to walk into a conversation and speak naturally, comfortably, and with confidence.
